STEPS TO SALVATION
Step One, Hearing
John 5:24
24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
Hearing
The first step to take is hearing about Jesus Christ, how He died on the cross and rose again so our sins might be forgiven and so we might be saved and have eternal life. Once we have heard this Good News - a type of Spiritual Seed is planted and it grows into faith. "..faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ."
Step Two, Faith/Believing
Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
John 14:6
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Acts 4:12
12 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Faith/Believing
Faith is much more than just believing that God and His Son Jesus Christ exist. Faith is that, but also a belief that God will reward you through Jesus Christ for earnestly seeking Him The reward is salvation and eternal life in heaven.
We must have faith that God through Jesus Christ will save us. And as a result of that faith, we're done looking for any other way to be saved, because Jesus is it-He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Step Three, Repenting
Proverbs 28:13
13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Acts 3: 19
19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord...
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all righteousness.
Repenting
Repentance begins with remorse (Godly Sorrow/feeling sorry) for the sins we have committed as we confess our sins to God.
Repentance also involves a change in direction-a turning to God in heart, mind and action as we turn from living life however we please to living to please God.
Step Four, Confessing Jesus is Lord
Romans 10:9
9 That if you confess with our mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Matthew 10:32-33
32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
Confessing, Jesus is Lord
Confessing Jesus Christ, involves acknowledging Jesus as our Lord with our lips and by the way we live our lives. "Jesus Christ is Lord" is more than a saying but our lives must also show the confession is true.
Step Five, Being Baptized
Romans 6:4-5 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just a Christ was raised from the death through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
Galatians 3:27
27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Acts 22:16
16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'
Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 2: 37-38
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of you sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I Peter 3:21-22
21 and this water symbolizes baptism thaqt now save you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Being Baptized
The Bible says that we are good as dead in our sin, yet Jesus Christ came to give us life. In order to experience this new life in Christ our dead sinful selves first need to be buried. Baptism is a type of burial as we're buried under the water.
Baptism also reminds us of how Jesus died and was buried. At baptism we become united with Jesus Christ's death and burial as we are buried under the water. However, just as Christ rose to life from the dead, we also are raised up out of the water to live a new life.
Step Six, Living the Christian Life
1 John 2:6 6 Whoever claims to live in him just walk as Jesus did. 2 Peter 3:18 18 But grown i the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen James 1:22 22 Don not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Matthew 28:18-20 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you, And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." | Living the Christian Life When we are baptized we become a Christian. After that we are expected to live our lives as Christians-as followers of Jesus Christ. That involves staying faithful, always growing, living out God's Word, and telling others about the Good News of Jesus Christ so they too can be saved. Regular Prayer, Daily Bible Reading and Attending Church Weekly are just a few ways we can learn and grow as we strive to Live the Christian Life. Our Hope is that Coe Church of Christ can be a vital source of encouragement, grace, love, strength and compassion as you strive to follow Christ and Live the Christian Life each and every day. |
